blink-182 was formed in Poway, California in 1992. The band originally consisted of bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus, guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge, and drummer Scott Raynor. Raynor left the band in 1998 and after a few fill-in drummers, Travis Barker was made an official member that same year. Tom DeLonge quit the group twice; once in 2005 when Blink went on hiatus and again in 2015. At that point, Blink replaced DeLonge with Alkaline Trio singer/guitarist Matt Skiba. They recorded two albums with Skiba, California in 2016 and Nine in 2019, and toured in support of both.
On June 23, 2021, Mark Hoppus announced that he had received a cancer diagnosis which he had been receiving treatment for 3 months. After his diagnosis, sources reported that Hoppus, DeLonge, and Barker got together to discuss old problems and hash out personal issues. In 2022, the band announced that they were reuniting and would be performing at the second edition of the When We Were Young Festival in Las Vegas in 2023.
blink-182 released a new song called “Edging” in October with plans to release a new album. The album release date has not been announced.
Fun Fact: blink-182 was originally named “Blink” but was forced to add the 182 after an Irish band threatened court action. While fans have speculated the meaning behind the numbers, the band has admitted that it’s just a number they made up.
