Cage the Elephant was formed in 2006 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. In 2008, they moved to England, U.K., and settled in London shortly before their self-titled debut album was released. Their debut album spawned several radio singles including “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked” and garnered them a large fan base in the US & UK.
Their sophomore album, Thank You, Happy Birthday, was released in 2011 and earned them an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Cage the Elephant won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album in 2017 for Tell Me I’m Pretty and again in 2020 for Social Cues.
Matt Shultz (vocals), his older brother Brad Shultz (rhythm guitar), Daniel Tichenor (bass), and Jared Champion (drums) are the founding members that are still part of the current lineup. Lincoln Parish is the founding lead guitarist and was a member of the band until 2013 when he left amicably to pursue a career as a producer. Parish was replaced by Nick Bockrath in 2017 and Matthan Minster (guitar, keyboards) joined Cage the Elephant that same year.
Fun Fact: Frontman Matt Shultz played football in High School. He quit the team when his mom started dating the coach.
