The Offspring was formed in 1984 in Garden Grove, California. The band’s original name was ‘Manic Subsidal’ before changing their name in 1986 after watching a movie called “The Offspring: They Were Born to Kill”. Bryan “Dexter” Holland (lead vocalist & rhythm guitarist) and Kevin “Noodles” Wasserman (lead guitarist) are the two longest-running members of the band, with Holland being the only founding member left. Gregory “Greg K.” Kriesel (band cofounder) was the bassist until 2018 when he was fired due to business disputes. Over the course of their 38-year career, The Offspring has gone through numerous line-up changes, most often with their drummer.
They have released 10 studio albums and have sold over 40 million records worldwide making them one of the best-selling punk rock bands in history. A new album titled Supercharged is due out on October 11, 2024.
Fun Fact: Frontman Dexter Holland has a Ph.D. in molecular biology. He is also a licensed pilot and in November 2014 he completed a 10-day solo flight around the world.
