Straight out of Canada, Three Days Grace was formed in 1992 and originally called themselves “Groundswell” and played in various local Norwood, ON., house parties, and bars before disbanding in 1995 and regrouping in 1997.
The band’s original members featured guitarist/lead vocalist Adam Gontier, drummer/backing vocalist Neil Sanderson, and bassist Brad Walst. In 2013, lead singer Gontier left the band and was replaced by My Darkest Days’ vocalist Matt Walst, the younger brother of the band’s bassist, Brad Walst.
In the U.S., the bands first three albums have been certified 2× platinum, 3× platinum, and platinum, respectively.
Fun Fact: “The name came from when we had day jobs” according to former front man Adam Gontier, “Brad (the band’s bassist) was going to be an accountant, and he’d heard the term ‘three days grace period’ to pay off a debt or something like that. He brought it to us, and it sounded pretty cool. … A lot of people think we’re a Christian rock band because we have the word ‘grace’ in our name. We are so far from being a Christian rock band.”
