Twenty One Pilots are an American musical duo from Columbus, Ohio. They formed in 2009 with lead vocalist Tyler Joseph along with Nick Thomas and Chris Salih. Both Thomas and Salih left the band in 2011. The band added drummer Josh Dun, and it remains just the two to this day. They won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards for “Stressed Out”. In 2012 they signed with Fueled by Ramen and dropped their label debut, Vessel, in 2013.
Their album Blurryface, released in 2015, became the first album in music history in which every single track received at least a gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America.
Their previous album, Vessel, became the second album in history on which every track received at least a gold certification, making Twenty One Pilots the first band in the history of music to see every song on two albums earn gold or platinum awards
Twenty One Pilots have landed ten No. 1 songs on the Alternative Songs chart, making them the artist with the fourth-most number-one songs on the chart, just below Linkin Park.
The band has received 40 awards from a total of 134 nominations including 1 Grammy.
Fun Fact: Twenty One Pilots are neither 21 nor pilots. Their name comes from the play All My Sons by Arthur Miller. In the play, the main character, Joe Keller knowingly ships out damaged airplane parts in an attempt to make enough money to support his family. This causes the death of twenty-one pilots, one of whom is his son.
