Weezer was formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1992. The band had a few bassist changes early on but since 2001 has consisted of Rivers Cuomo (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Patrick Wilson (drums, backing vocals), Scott Shriner (bass guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), and Brian Bell (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals).
In 1994, Weezer released their self-titled debut album, also known as the Blue Album. The album included some of the band’s biggest hits; “Buddy Holly”, “Undone – The Sweater Song”, and “Say It Ain’t So”, making it a multiplatinum success. Weezer’s sophomore album, Pinkerton was released in 1996 and initially received mixed reviews. It has since become a cult classic and is now often cited as one of the best albums of the 1990s.
Weezer released their self-titled Green Album in 2001 which featured the singles “Hash Pipe” and “Island in the Sun”. Since 1994, Weezer has released 15 studio albums, a compilation album, and a live album. The band won a Grammy Award in 2009 for Best Music Video for the song “Pork and Beans.” They have also won a handful of MTV Video Music Awards; 4 for the song “Buddy Holy” and one for “Pork and Beans.” Weezer has sold 10.2 million albums in the US and over 35 million worldwide.
In 2022, Weezer released a series of EPs based around the four seasons, each release taking place on the first day of the season.
