Beck, (born Bek David Campbell), is a well-known musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He was born and raised in Los Angeles and where he began performing locally in coffeehouses and clubs in his teens. In 1989, he moved to New York City and spent a few years there before moving back to LA in the early 1990s. There, hit recorded his hit breakthrough single “Loser”, which was released on Beck’s 3rd album, Mellow Gold. To date, Beck has released 14 studio albums, along with a slew on non-album singles, and a book of sheet music. He is best known for his musical collages of a wide range of genres including folk, funk, soul, hip-hop, electronic, alternative rock, country, and psychedelia.
In 2014, Beck’s 12th studio album, Morning Phase, won Album of the Year at the 57th Grammy Awards. In 2017, his 13th studio album Colors, won awards for Best Alternative Album and Best Engineered Album at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. Beck is a four-time platinum artist and has two albums, Odelay and Sea Change, ranked on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
Fun Fact: Beck’s dad is a composer from Toronto that has worked on hundreds of soundtracks and albums, including Muse, Linkin Park, Green Day, and Radiohead.
Fun Fact 2: Beck is married to Marissa Rubisi who played Cynthia in the movie Dazed and Confused. Her twin brother is actor Giovanni Rubisi who has acted in a number of movies and tv shows including Avatar, Ted 1 & 2, and Gone in 60 Seconds and is best known as playing Phoebe’s brother in the show Friends.
