In 2008, Fun was founded by Nate Russ, formally of The Product, which had just previously broken up. Russ called up Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff (now of Bleachers & Taylor Swift fame) to join him in a new project. Their first album Aim And Ignite received positive reviews but didn’t blow up until the release of their next single “We Are Young” featuring Janelle MonĂ¡e, and has been heard all over the place including the T.V. show Gossip Girl, 90210, Glee, and Chuck; commercials for Chevrolet and Apple; and in the trailer for Judd Apatow’s film This Is 40.
The band went on to receive 5 Grammy nominations, and 1 Grammy win for Record of The Year for “We Are Young.”
On February 4, 2015, the band announced that they were not breaking up, but will be taking a hiatus to work on other projects.
Fun Fact: “We Are Young” became the first, and at this time only, song that has ever gained 300,000+ downloads for seven weeks straight.
