Alice Merton is a British-based German-Irish-Canadian singer-songwriter, who rose to fame in 2016 with her debut single, “No Roots.” The song topped multiple European charts, went platinum several times in different countries, and cracked the Billboard Alternative Songs chart in the United States.
Born on September 13, 1993 in Frankfurt Germany, Merton has moved across various countries, influencing her music’s themes of constant change, identity, and belonging. In 2019, she released her debut album, Mint which further solidified her place in the pop music scene. Beyond “No Roots,” tracks like “Lash Out” and “Why So Serious” have also gained a lot of attention.
Merton’s music has all been done independently, and is characterized by a unique blend of alt-pop with occasional rock and electro elements. Over the last five years, she has played Coachella, went 8x Platinum, earned US-Gold, released Mint+4 in January 2019, and released S.I.D.E.S. in June 2022.
