Shinedown formed in 2001 in Jacksonville, FL by front man Brent Smith, after his previous band, Dreve, split up. The remaining founding members were guitarist Jasin Todd, bassist Brad Stewart, and drummer Barry Kerch.

Shinedown has been nominated many times for major music awards (12), however, never won one.
