Sum 41 is a Canadian rock band from Ajax, Ontario, formed in 1996. Their lineup currently includes lead vocalist Deryck Whibley, lead guitarist Dave Baksh, bassist Jason McCaslin, guitarist and keyboardist Tom Thacker and drummer Frank Zummo.
The band quickly gained popularity with their debut album All Killer No Filler, released in 2001, featuring hit singles “Fat Lip” and “In Too Deep”. “Fat Lip” reached number one of the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and to this day is their most successful single. Throughout their career, they achieved significant milestones, including multiple platinum albums and a strong, dedicated fanbase. Despite challenges and lineup changes over the years, Sum 41 has remained a staple in the punk rock scene.
In recent years, Sum 41 has continued to produce music and tour worldwide. Their latest and eighth studio album, Heaven :x: Hell was a double album released on March 29, 2024. Heaven was a return to the pop punk sound of their early career, and Hell was a continuation of their recent heavier metal sound. Currently, they are on their final tour.
Sum 41’s musical style has consistently varied throughout their albums, ranging from skate-punk, to pop-punk, to heavy metal. Their sound and influence has rubbed off on many current and upcoming bands. With a legacy spanning over two decades, their influence on the punk rock genre is undeniable, cementing them as one of the most iconic bands of their generation.
