With the annual sturgeon spawning season about to begin along Wisconsin’s Wolf River, communities along the river expect an increase in human visitors eager to watch the highly-visible ritual up close. And with the increase in the human population during that time, a partnership between the DNR and local groups are looking for volunteers to help with the monitoring of the activities.
The ‘Sturgeon Guard’ was set up to monitor sturgeon spawning activities and to report any violations by onlookers to the department. Each year they look for volunteers to be part of the ‘Sturgeon Squad’ in order to protect the sturgeon during this annual event. Interested parties looking to volunteer to join the ‘Sturgeon Squad’ can find out more at the Scutes the Sturgeon Facebook page.
Meanwhile, the Wolf River Cam website continues to maintain the live underwater streams from various spots along the Wolf River and you can find those at wolfrivercam.com.
