Bastille was formed in South London in 2010. The group started as the solo project of frontman Dan Smith. It later expanded to include Kyle Simmons (keyboardist), Will Farquarson (bassist and guitarist), and Chris “Woody” Wood (drummer ). The band’s name is derived from Bastille Day (the national day of France) which is celebrated on July 14th, also the birthday of frontman Dan Smith.
Bastille’s first studio album, Bad Blood, was released in March 2013 and gave the band mainstream success after the release of the album’s fourth single “Pompeii.” In 2014, Bastille was nominated for four Brit Awards, winning the British Breakthrough Act. Bastille released their sophomore album Wild World in 2016 which included the singles “Good Grief” and “Send Them Off!” In June of 2019, the band’s third album Doom Days was released and included four singles; “Quarter Past Midnight”, “Doom Days”, “Joy”, “Those Nights”, and “Another Place”.
Give Me the Future is the fourth studio album from Bastille and was released on February 4, 2022. The album has produced five singles including “Distorted Light Beam”, “Give Me the Future”, “Thelma + Louise”, “No Bad Days”, and “Shut Off the Lights.”
As of August 2021, Bastille has sold over eleven million records worldwide.
